FREMINGTON EDGE featured a real pea souper of a fog on Friday morning where 90 contenders entered the Sid Morton Memorial trial without catching a glimpse of the towering limestone craggs overlooking the Swaledale town of Reeth.

Just how clerk of course Paul Terry navigated the treacherous rocks and located ten sections is still a mystery. No doubt they were slippery and even Jack Wood winner Richard Sadler parted with 32 marks, one less than Faceby's Guy Kendrew and a dozen ahead of top Sherco rider James Stones. The final brace of sections were up above the White Cottage where the legendary Vesty's Steps trapped all but the fainted hearted. Sadler and Kendrew lost half their total marks on the unforgiving hardware. As far as class results Roger Williams was just up a gear on Paul Dennis and Brendan Suffell. Paul Sadler ran off with the clubman class from David Watson who finally got the Ken Raw works Crusader running properly. Mark Proudlock just nailed the Over 40's with Mark Simpson and Andrew Dennis right on his case.

And the postscript - the sun finally broke through and fog vanished to reveal Fremington in all its glory.

THE Richmond club completed their Easter weekend double with a clubman and youth trial at Iron Banks on Monday. The real shock was not the sunshine and warm weather but the ninety five competitors who travelled many miles to compete.

GOOD FRIDAY was the start of four trials for the North East Centre over Easter when a good turn out at Hownsgill near Castleside had to endure bad weather all day in what turned out to be a bit of a mud bath, after the heavy rain took its toll on the sections.
