NEXT MONTH'S Dales Cup Final will be between Unicorn FC and Reeth after last Saturday saw them both come through tough semi-finals.

Reeth caused one of the shocks of the season with a 3-2 success at quadruple-chasing Colburn Town.

The holders, who had already won the Medals Shield earlier this month, were looking for a clean sweep of trophies this season but Stephen Bainbridge fired Reeth into an early lead. Before the break, Nige Cole brought Colburn level but on the hour, Steve Allison restored the Reeth advantage.

When Liam Hall made it 2-2 it appeared as though Colburn would go on to win but Reeth held out for extra-time where a strike from Karl Longden sent them through to the final.

Unicorn FC faced a difficult tie against Hawes United but they came through surprisingly easily, 4-0. In the first half, Shaun Charlton and Lewis Stabler put Unicorn in control while after the break, Tom Keegan and Ryan Crowther sealed their passage.

Two minutes from time the Hawes misery was then complete when Chris Lambert was shown a second yellow card. The final will take place at Ferrand Park, Harmby, on May 9.

With all the cup drama elsewhere, ten-man Catterick Garrison Football Centre moved nine points clear at the top of the table with a 3-1 home win over Spennithorne and Harmby. Dan Deeney's early goal for Catterick was equalised by Barry Harker, just moments after he had replaced the injured Scott Greenway, but before the break Steven Files restored the leaders advantage. Their hopes were dealt a blow on the hour when Jez Mortimer was sent off but Deeney's second, four minutes from time, sealed the points.

Colburn Town kept themselves in the title race on Monday night with a 2-0 home win over Carperby Rovers. Second half goals from Luke McCormack and Jamie Dempster were just enough to move Colburn to within nine points of Catterick Garrison with five games in hand. Only their heavy end of season, including next week's North Riding Cup Final against Boro Rangers, can surely prevent Colburn taking the title now.
