CRAIG BREWSTER, the Inverness Caledonian Thistle player-manager, has ruled out an imminent return to Dundee United ahead of the sides' meeting tomorrow.

With Gordon Chisholm, the United manager, under increasing pressure as his side lurches from one disappointment to another, Brewster - as a supporter and Tannadice legend - has been inevitably linked with a return to the club, as he was when Ian McCall left in March.

While he could conceivably mark the end of Chisholm's tenure with victory at the Caledonian Stadium this weekend, Brewster has pledged his loyalty to the Highland club on his first anniversary in charge by insisting he will resist the lure of a move back to Dundee.

"It's automatic when someone loses their job that people look for potential replacements, " he said. "There is speculation and suddenly it's 'Brewster for Dundee United'. I've had it already, but as I said back then, I'm just 10 minutes in the job.

"It's important to give a club loyalty, particularly in your first job. I've got to get a sound footing in management and I've also asked the players here to give themselves to Caley Thistle for two years. So I don't think it would be right to be jumping at other jobs."

The incumbent at United, meanwhile, is hoping for a repeat of his side's last league trip north, when Barry Robson's late penalty ensured their top-flight survival.

"This fixture is every bit as important as that last league game up there at the end of last season, " said Chisholm, who is without midfielder Grant Brebner for the trip.

"I remember it being a very poor game, but our attitude was excellent, and at the end of the day we got the result."
