Police launched a murder hunt today after a woman was deliberately knocked down and killed in a hit and run.

Margaret Boris, 39, was mowed down by the car in Paisley.

The driver of the Volkswagen Polo did not stop at the scene. Police said Ms Boris, from Irvine, Ayrshire, had been struck deliberately.

Officers appealed for witnesses to the incident which happened on the town's King Street at around 11am yesterday.

Detective Inspector Allan Woods said: "I am extremely encouraged by the response from members of the public so far, but would still like to hear from anyone who may have been walking, driving or travelling within a bus or car at the scene who may have witnessed the incident or may have seen the car driving away.

"Any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist police inquiries is asked to contact police as a matter of urgency."
