WITH their Lazenby land unavailable, Middlesbrough DMC ran their Northern Group Championship trial, at Guisborough DMC's practice ground at Charltons, near Guisborough on Sunday, drawing a good entry of 60 riders.

Owing to course plotter Phil Perry's excellent understanding of the frosty conditions, the sections proved spot on and it was Scarborough's AM Jotagas rider James Carr – the lone expert entry on the day – who rode to the inevitable Premier win on a loss of 17 marks.

A strong entry in the ever growing Intermediate class saw a fine battle between two up and coming riders, Guisborough's Paul Wheatley and Wombleton's Shane Monkman, Wheatley edging the win by two marks due to his unpenalised ride on the rock steps of section two as Monkman lost three here.

Mark Shearer proved a clear winner in Clubman A class and John Stones from York beat Guisborough's Chris Banks after Banks lost three on the treacherous rock climb of section four. Only Stones and Brian Johnson from Yarm remained clean here. Guisborough's George McGee is back to doing what he excels at and that's schooling the youngsters on basic trials skills. He – and his army of helpers – held a tuition trial and Niamh Watson came out tops, heading siblings John and Ryan Hunter-Jackson.

THE Richmond Motor Club staged their end of season awards and social evening on Friday evening at the Bolton Arms, Leyburn, where more than 100 members and guests enjoyed the awards ceremony and a pea and pie supper.

The club turned the clocks back to 1969 when the Bolton Arms hosted the annual dinner. David Peacock acted as master of ceremonies complimenting Chris Wallis for her work publicising the Centenary Scott Trial.

Chris and Ken worked on many projects. Mrs Wallis produced a special Scott Trial Centenary calendar last October. Six hundred were ordered and 575 were sold at £10 each, with the proceeds donated to Richmond Motor Club charities.

The Wallis family also visited the Telford Show for promotional purposes, worked on the Scott Trial marquee decorations and facilities and producing the commemorative Scott Trial Calendar.

Rhona Peacock presented the awards photographed by Stuart ‘Litchfield’ Lowther who took on the duties in the absence of the Press who were unable to travel due to road conditions. Andrew Wilkinson provided the disco for the evening, even recruiting Scott Trial winner Phil Alderson to man the turntables.

The evening was masterminded by Vickie Andrew and Sandra Fowler. West Witton’s Richard Sadler headed the trophy haul with five awards. The apprentice joiner travelled home with the Harold Graham Trophy, Albert Shaw Trophy and the Gerald Simpson Memorial Trophy. His mother Viv will be nominated to polish the silverware.

Askrigg motor engineer Philip Alderson just headed Sadler in the expert championship. The Eric Ridley Trophy and Novice class were won by Arkengarthdale teenager James Stones. Carlton’s Matt Maynard topped the Inter class. Skeeby’s Jonathan Richardson won the Noel Peacock Trophy. Dan Thorpe, Ian Austermuhle and James Stones collected the other major awards. The top Clubman was Andy Kearton while David Braithwaite, Gary Thwaite took the Over 40’s and Green course awards.

FOUR laps were enough for Pickering officials and competitors on Sunday at icy Yatt’s Farm at Newton on Rawcliffe where the club staged the second trial in their easy event series.

The usual format for the club is six laps of 11 sections for a mere £12 but the arctic conditions prevailing brought about a rethink so for sections it was. The scores for a winter event were just about right after four laps. The direction was anticlockwise which provided a different perspective at Yatts. Adult winner Gary Hunter signed off with a 17 score, two up on Robert Hunter.

Thirty adult monos circulated plus five twin shock contestants. The youth class was a chip of the old block result with Jack Darrell heading Harrison Watkins by eight marks leaving Jonathan Wray to collect a lonely third place. The third event in the series will be at Crook Farm on March 15. The club have issued special instructions on access to the trial. Do not enter by the farmhouse route.

THE first snow casualty was the Yeadon-Guiseley M.C. first championship trial at Addingham Moorside on Sunday. The event was axed at 11am on Saturday. The club will discuss arranging a new date, subject to the availability of a date.
