The Football Association is investigating an allegation that Blackburn Rovers' Rudy Gestede was racially abused during the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough last Saturday.

Gestede scored a controversial equaliser five minutes into stoppage time, denying Boro three points that would have taken them top of the table.

Following the final whistle Gestede appeared upset by something which came from a section of the home support and was pictured appearing to mimic a gesture to his team-mates.

Referee Mark if Clattenburg included the incident in his report and an FA spokesman has confirmed the governing body has asked each club for their observations.

The news comes a day after Boro boss Aitor Karanka was charged by the FA for alleged improper conduct after being sent from the technical area by Clattenburg in the aftermath of Gestede’s goal.

He was furious that Rovers goal was was given, as goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos appeared to have been fouled in the build-up.
