DENBY DALE'S trials star 17-year-old Jack Price hit the jackpot on Sunday at Scarborough DMC Cliff Collinson National Trial winning the coveted trophy after a battle to hold off Scarborough's Michael Brown to win by just one point, with Kirkbymoorside's British Class A Youth champion, Dan Peace making it a Gas Gas clean sweep.

Two laps and 20 sections, under no stop rules, set around the old army camp had British number two Brown in all sorts of trouble early on with fives lost on section two, eight and 11 to finish his first lap on 15 equal with Beta contender Ian Austermuhle. But Price posted a blinding first lap on just four marks lost.

Second lap and Brownie really lit the fuse and put in a great lap of just one mark lost on the huge rocks of five, but the damage was done, just too much ground to make up and Price kept his head and the lead to take a superb victory by one mark. Lincoln's Chris Alford continued his run of good form to grab the Intermediate class from the Scarborough duo of Josh Sprintall – who John Shirt kindly lent a bike to, so Josh could ride his late grandfathers memorial trial - and Michael Todd, with Egton Bridge rider Colin Bailey heading Clubman class from Darlington's Stephen Bennett.

Bailey's confident unpenalised first lap set the scene for his win, as third place man Alan Carr and runner up Bennett finished on three and seven respectively.

ALMOST 70 riders made the long trip to Rooklands Farm, near Alwinton in Northumberland on Sunday, for the Seaton Delaval Club's second Harry Norman Shield Trial, held in memory of the long standing North East Centre stalwart, who had presided over hundreds of events over the past 50 years.

However there was a bit more than a win at stake here, the event being the final round of the North East Centre Championships, with riders competing for points in a number of classes. John Crinson flew back from France just in time to make the start and duly went on to take the Expert Shield on nine marks.

Last year's winner, John Battensby, came home in second place ahead of Dale Robson and Andrew Battensby. Sedgefield bike dealer Eddie Aitkin had to work extra hard on the Clubman Route, just holding off the challenge of 2013 winner James Black, along with Ian Stephen, but after his six marks on section six. On the Easy Route, Championships were at stake, with great interest in the Twinshock class, as Gary Daykin, Micky Johnson and John Grey all had an eye on the win.

The twinshock trio settled for three, and Johnson came out on top with 16 marks lost, followed by Grey on 24, but Daykin's 29 ensured he took the inaugural North East Twin-shock Championship back home to Darlington.

MARTIN CROSSWAITE 'escaped' from the Busfield Arms at East Morten to have one of his very occasional competitive rides on his Montesa 4rt trials machine.

'Crosser' has gained a reputation of appearing and competing, and much to the chagrin of his rivals, winning by a country mile. He did just that on Sunday at the Yeadon-Guiseley club's annual DT Smith Trophy Trial on Addingham Moorside. As owner of the Busfield hostelry his trialling times take a very second place in his time schedule. To add further insult to injury, Mr Crosswaite rode the entire trials course without penalty.

Rawdon's Sam Beecroft-Penny was second and also best Inter class rider from Guiseley's Joe Jennings.

Eccleshill 14-year-old Keiran Child was the best youth in fifth place and could have been further up but for an untidy trip over the handlebars at section 12 on lap one. Lothersdale observer Jeremy Parker was surprised when Kieran landed at his feet, under his Beta machine. The overnight fog and some rain made all 15 section tricky on the first lap then the sky cleared and some weak winner sun dried the grassy patches. South Elmsall rider Peter field just headed Keighley youth Joe Fox in the Clubman B class beating Halifax adult Michael Benn by two penalties.

Horsforth Tom Green won Clubman B adult class from Pudsey's Mark Chippendale and Glusburn's Jonathan Baker. Paul Whitham had twenty one small wheels contenders to try and control on their separate eight section three lap course. Scorton's Elliott Laws was just too skilled on the hard route for Harry Hemingway and Harry Turner. Preston's Mecatecno mounted Morgan Shepherd ruled the middle route while Huddersfield girl Taylor Crossland won the easy class from Taylor Brooksbank.
