COLBURN TOWN still lead the way after a 5-1 victory at Carperby Rovers on Saturday saw them maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

Tom Sweeney opened the scoring after just five minutes and Colburn were in complete control as goals either side of the break from Rory Wallace and Stu Murray made it 3-0.

Rovers did pull one back through the ever-reliable John Pickard on the hour but in the closing stages Murray, with his second, and substitute Michael Brend completed the scoring.

The Murray-Sweeney partnership that has given Colburn so much success in recent years has now yielded double figures already this campaign.

Bedale Town Reserves are the only other side with three wins from their opening three games after they enjoyed a goal spree at bottom side Askrigg United, winning 9-4.

Bedale raced into a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes with a goal from Matthew Tew and a brace from Daniel Libera but Askrigg, who had failed to score in their previous two matches, fought back thanks to strikes from George Handley and Ryan Alderson. Gareth Sargent then restored the two-goal Bedale cushion but David Teasdale replied to make it 4-3 at the break.

The second half was all about Bedale substitute Liam Johnson who scored a hattrick to seal the points while Libera also completed his hat-trick before Matthew Allison added his name to the scoresheet.

Handley grabbed a late Askrigg consolation.

Unicorn FC are up to third after a dramatic last minute penalty from Mark Jamieson gave them a 3-2 victory over Catterick Garrison Football Centre.

Both sides came into the match still unbeaten this season and that looked to be the way it would stay as early Unicorn goals from Shaun Charlton and Darren Enright were equalised before the break by Michael Birdsall and Steven Files.

But a bad tempered second half was just about to end when Unicorn were awarded a penalty and Jamieson kept his cool to give his side all three points.

Defending champions Hawes United picked up their first win of the season with a 6-3 success against Richmond Buck Inn.

Jonathan Champion and Steve Calvert looked to have put Hawes on course for a routine victory but goals either side of the break from David Addison brought the Buck level.

Calvert and Darren Bell soon made it 4-2 but the Richmond-based side refused to lie down and Gareth Love kept them in touch on the hour. But when the champions needed something special, Calvert, as he has so often in the past, stepped up again with two more goals in the final ten minutes to give his side the points.

Richmond Mavericks moved into the top five with a 7-2 thrashing of struggling Reeth.

Mark Butcher was making his debut in goal for Reeth at the tender age of 50 but he was soon picking the ball out of his net from both Darran Matthews and Phil Stirling.

Joe Woodall replied for the hosts but Matthews scored again before the break while Stirling added his second soon after the restart.

Michael Snowdon hit a second for Reeth but David Andrews and substitutes Liam Ryan and Lewis Burgess, ensured it was a good day for the Mavs.

Spennithorne and Harmby finally got their campaign off and running with a 6-2 win over Richmond Town Academy.

Liam Reeves put the previously winless Spenni ahead after just four minutes but Ryan Howe equalised soon after.

However, David Hicken, with two, and Sam Terry put the hosts in control by the break while in the second half, Reeves scored his second before substitute James Smith sealed the points.
