  • English Senior Open, Rockliffe Hall - Paul Fraser
  • Aston Villa v Newcastle - Steph Clark
  • Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday - Richard Mason
  • Wimbledon v Hartlepool - Nick Loughlin

That's it from Rockliffe Hall for today, should be a great finale tomorrow. Monasterio has a comfortable lead but it could all still happen, particularly if Mr Woosnam can repeat his heroics from today.

Brilliant display from Cesar Monasterio today and he had a man from Castle Eden on his bag ...

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 2

First win of the season for Pools - hard working and two goals both created by Brobbel. Pools off and running.

Middlesbrough 2 Sheffield Wednesday 3

Middlesbrough 2 Sheffield Wednesday 3

Fair to say the Riverside has woken up now - Leadbitter converts the spot kick after Glenn Loovens handled in the area, while Adomah's fizzed ball across the box was just behind Kike and Leadbitter, while Williams could not get the touch.

Middlesbrough 2 (Leadbitter, pen, 92) Sheffield Wednesday 3

Another penalty to Boro, handball in the area now.

Monasterio has gone one better than Woosnam. He has equalled the course record by birdying the last to finish with a 63, nine-under. Brilliant from the Argentine.

Birdied all four of the par fives.

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 2

Long last two mins to come for Pools - got the lead,  under pressure. Richards on for impressive Wyke.

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 2

Superb penalty save from Flinders to keep the advantage.

Miller fouled Tubbs in the area. Tubbs took it, smashed it to his left, but Flinders went full stretch to save.

Now Monasterio has moved to 11 under. He is on the 18th tee after birdying the 17th to put him on eight-under for the day. That is the same as Woosnam at the same stage, so if the Argentine can birdie the last he will equal Tinning's course record.

Middlesbrough 1 (Leadbitter 72) Sheffield Wednesday 3

Penalty to Boro

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 2

Pools in front - Brobbel again the creator. Tore away down the right , pushed into the araa for Harewood. Back to goal, turned and scored.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 3

A little bit of a response from Boro here, Adam Reach's cross pushed over the bar by Westwood, and the Irishman getting down smartly to tip Kike's shot around the post.

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 1

Obvious to say, but this is a better Pools since the goal. It's been a while since they did score, however, there's a bit more belief in thier outlook now.

Brobbel lively, looking the part out wide. Wimbledon seem a bit nervy, which wasn't the case in the first half.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 3

Bad to worse for Boro as Nuhiu heads home his second of the afternoon, this time from a free-kick into the box.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 3

It's all happening, Drummond has birdied the last to join Monasterio at the last on nine-under with an impressive 65.

But then Monasterio responds with a birdie at 16 to then reclaim the lead at ten under.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 2

Fair play to Aitor Karanka for recognising the threat Wednesday possess in attack and changing his side's shape to accommodate them. They're chasing the game now, Clayton will give them a bit of presence in the centre.

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 1

Wyke, seconds into the second half, heads in Pools first goal of the season.

Free kick from Brobbel, looped up in the area, keeper was blocked out and Wyke was able to head in from inside the 6 yard box.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 2

Adam Clayton comes on to replace Damia Abella as Boro go three at the back.

It's really shaping up nicely at Rockliffe. Monasterio is leading and is two shots clear of Ross Drummond, while Ian Woosnam is on a three-man group including Jose Manuel Carriles and Barry Lane on six-under.

Santiago Luna, Jamie Spence and Mark James are all sitting on five-under. Monasterio and Drummond are still out on the course.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 2

Wimbledon 1 Hartlepool 0

Same story for Pools - another half without a goal, and a goal conceded they should have cut out.

Eaglescliffe's Graeme Bell has finished with a one-over, 73. So he is one-over for the tournament going in to the final round.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 2 (May 42)

Worse for Boro now as Stevie May clips over the advancing Mejias. Wednesday the clinical side here.

Wimbledon v Hartlepool

Pools on the back foot and forced to defend for the most. Wyke, up front, is working hard.

Got to say, and it's been well documened this season, but that Akinfenwa fella up front is huge.

And I mean HUGE.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Wednesday have got a man over in attack whenever they go forward, neither Whitehead nor Leadbitter are dropping in - putting Ayala and Omeruo under great pressure.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Wednesday have hit the post - Mejias tapped May's shot on to the woodwork after Maghoma's neat run and pass.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Grant Leadbitter hits the crossbar with a whipped free-kick. Boro looking a bit brighter now after their poor start.

Cesar Monasterio has birdied the 12th to move three shots clear of Woosnam. The South American is now six under for today and, if things stay as they are, that will be some final pairing on Sunday.

AFC Wimbledon v Hartlepool

Ten mins in, Pools one down. Ball clipped  into Matt Tubbs just inside the penalty area, but he's left alone by both Matthew Bates and Sam Collins, picked his spot and rolled in.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Wednesday go 1-0 up in the sixth minute as Atdhe Nuhiu bundles over the line. Tomas Mejias fails to clear the cross while there were four men on the line seemingly unable to clear it. Shocking stuff.

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Middlesbrough 0 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday fans have travelled well to the Riverside, they take up a sizeable portion of the away end in the East Stand. Good club, good fans.

Brilliant from Woosnam. He was understandbly in a great mood too. Here's what he had to say before dishing out golf balls to a few kids and signing autographs.

AFC Wimbledon v Hartlepool

Lots of consernation and talk pre match about Luke James. We are told by the club's press officer that Colin Cooper will talk about the situation after the game.

The club has responded to a number of points raised on a supporters messageboard here:

Anyway, without James today, there's a few changes.

AFC WIMBLEDON: Shea; Fuller, Bennett, Barrett, Kennedy; Frankcomb, Bulman, Moore, Rigg; Akinfenwa, Tubbs. Subs: Worner (gk), Phillips, Nicholson, Pell, Harrison, Sainte-Luce, Azeez.

HARTLEPOOL UNITED: Flinders; Duckworth, Bates, Collins, Austin; Franks, Walker, Miller, Brobbel; Wyke, Harewood. Subs: Holden, Compton, Woods, Richards, Smith, Harrison, Barber (gk)

Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday

Patrick Bamford is off watching Nottingham Forest play today while he mulls over a move to - among many - Middlesbrough. I'd be pulling the plug on it if I was Aitor, personally.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

Plenty of possession and chances for Newcastle, but they are held at Villa Park.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

Mike Williamson sent off for a second yellow card after bringing down Delph. Steven Taylor on.

De Jong missed a great chance earlier after combining with Perez. Still goalless.

Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday

Here's the full teams with substitutes for your reading pleasure.

For Wednesday, one change from Tuesday as Coke comes in for Hutchinson.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1): Mejias; Damia, Ayala, Omeruo, Friend; Whitehead, Leadbitter; Adomah, Tomlin, Reach; Kike. Subs: Konstantopoulos, Clayton, Williams, Hines, Husband, Nsue, Fewster.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY (4-4-2): Westwood; Palmer, Loovens, Lee, Mattock; Coke, Maghoma, Maguire, Semedo; May, Nuhiu. Subs: Kirkland, McCabe, Helan, Zayatte, Corry, Floro, Madine.

Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday

Arrived at the Riverside bathed in sunshine. Feels like the first game of the season. Except I've brought a coat. Completely useless. What am I going to do with it?!

Team news is in. For Boro, Dean Whitehead and Dani Ayala replace Adam Clayton and Seb Hines respectively. Other than that, it's as you were.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-2-3-1): Mejias; Damia, Ayala, Omeruo, Friend; Whitehead, Leadbitter; Adomah, Tomlin, Reach; Kike.

Wimbledon v Hartlepool

Confirmed - as expected - there's no Luke James for Hartlepool United today. Not at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

Siem de Jong is on for Vurnon Anita. Meanwhile, Roy Keane has just hurled a water bottle at Paul Lambert's you know what after reacting angrily to a decision.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

Remy Cabella is having another difficult afternoon. He's been brushed off the ball quite a few times and is now being booed by the home fans for constantly going down under pressure.

Newcastle have had two goos chances since the restart. Daryl Janmaat's header was tipped over by Guzan before his curling effort sailed just wide.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

Pardew's side have had most of the ball, but it hasn;t quite worked in the final third. Villa look dangerous on the counter and have had a lot of joy down the left.

Woosnam has birdied 15, 16 and 17 to move to claim a share of the lead with Cesar Monasterio as he heads up the 18th.

He is on track for a 64, eight-under, but if he can somehow muster another birdie then he will have equalled Steen Tinning's course record from last year.

Matfen Hall's John Harrison has also enjoyed a much better day. After Friday's five over, he has climbed back to level par with a stunning 67.

He posted a bogey free round which included five birdies to give him a chance of a decent finish going in to Sunday's final round.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

Both teams pressing. Cabella's snatched shot went wide after good move involving Janmaat and Gouffran, before Andreas Weimann's shot was blocked by Williamson.

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

CHANCE! N'Zogbia free-kick flies inches wide. Applause around Villa Park in memory of Liam Sweeney and John Alder in the 17th minute

Aston Villa 0 Newcastle 0

The visitors have started well, but Villa look dangerous on the counter. A Cabella corner was flicked on at the near post by Williamson, but Gouffran misses the ball at the far post.

Former Newcastle winger Charles N'Zogbia has gone closest for the hosts with a looping header that landed on the roof of the net.

Darlington and Stockton Times: Sam Torrance

Darlington and Stockton Times: Woosnam is a shot off leader Cesar Monasterio, who is the outright leader after Jamie Spence double bogeyed the third to drop down to three-under.

Roger Roper is the first North-East golfer back in the clubhouse. The Rockliffe Hall pro made a huge improvement on yesterday's opening 77 to turn in a one-unnder 71 today.

He is far more relaxed about his round today, chatting and smiling in the clubhouse and he sits on four-over for the tournament.

Darlington and Stockton Times:

Ian Woosnam on the ninth, which is his only bogey so far on day two.

Brilliant round so far from Ian Woosnam. He has just made his sixth birdie of the day and just one dropped shot at the ninth to move to tied third at Rockliffe Hall.

Woosnam's only dropped shot arrived on the same hole as Echo snapper Chris Booth was asked to silence his camera by the Welshman. Boothy is certainly being targeted by the big boys ...

Aston Villa v Newcastle United

ALAN Pardew has named an unchanged team for Newcastle United’s lunchtime kick-off at Aston Villa.

Siem de Jong is fit after recovering from a calf injury, but the former Ajax man starts on the bench with Pardew naming the same line-up that lost to Manchester City on the opening weekend.

Aston Villa are also unchanged from their win at Stoke City with former Magpie Charles N’Zogbia starting alongside Gabby Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann.

Aston Villa: Guzan; Hutton, Vlaar, Senderos, Cissokho; Richardson, Delph, Westwood; Weimann, Agbonlahor, N’Zogbia.

Subs: Given, Baker, Bacuna, Cole, Bent, Sanchez, Grealish.

Newcastle United: Krul; Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Dummett; Anita, Colback; Sissoko, Cabella, Gouffran; Riviere.

Subs: Elliot, S Taylor, Haidara, Abeid, de Jong, Obertan, Perez.

Just found out that the biggest mover of the day so far at Rockliffe, Jean-Pierre Sallat, is a former professional footballer. Used to play for Bordeaux and Le Havre, now he is on the Senior Tour and has five top ten finishes behind him.

Aston Villa v Newcastle

Welcome to Villa Park for today's early kick-off in the Premier League. Newcastle have arrived and team news is imminent. Alan Pardew's side have won on their last two trips to Aston Villa, can they make it three?

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Sam Torrance has got his second round underway, he was not in the best of moods yesterday ... especially when Echo snapper Chris Booth was still taking photos of him on the ninth. "You got enough of me yet?" he said. "You must have enough for an album."

Jean-Pierre Sallat and Ian Woosnam are the main movers this morning at Rockliffe. Both are on two-under, three adrift of leader Jamie Spence.

Sallat, a Frenchman, has birdied five of the first nine holes to hit the turn in 31 in incredible fashion.

Eaglescliffe’s Graeme Bell is level par after three alongside reigning champion Steen Tinning. Hurworth’s Roger Roper and Matfen Hall’s John Harrison are three under for the day.

There has been a light shower but the action is underway at Rockliffe Hall and Ian Woosnam is motoring his way up the field.

The former US Masters champion has gone four under through the opening six holes to climb right in to the contention before the leaders go out at lunch-time.
