AITOR KARANKA has made three changes to his Middlesbrough team at Bolton tonight.

Spanish defender Daniel Ayala drops down to the bench along with midfielder Dean Whitehead and winger Adam Reach. That has opened the door for Seb Hines to move in to the heart of the defence, with Adam Clayton set for a first start as well as Emilio Nsue.

Karanka has chosen to freshen things up in a bid to bounce back from Saturday's defeat at Leeds United. Interestingly he has kept faith with goalkeeper Tomas Mejias, despite his error in the build up to the winning goal at Elland Road.

The Teessiders have given both Christian Burgess and Richie Smallwood permission to complete respective moves to Peterborough and Rotherham today.

Former Middlesbrough defender David Wheater starts for Bolton.
