Town hold trial to find players of ‘promise’
4:54pm Friday 11th July 2014 in Sport
GUISBOROUGH TOWN are holding another trial session for promising young U23 players on Sunday, between 4-6pm at Southlands Centre, Middlesbrough Last season several of Guisborough’s progressive and successful young development side broke into the ranks of the Guisborough senior squad. One of last season’s star strikers, Mikey Roberts, started off in Guisborough’s younger ranks and has now moved onwards and upwards to one of the area’s biggest non-league clubs, Spennymoor Town.
As part of the transfer deal that took Roberts to Spennymoor, Guisborough have been given their first pre-season friendly fixture at Spennymoor this coming Saturday (ko 3pm) so Guisborough fans will get the opportunity to see their former favourite in action against the Priorymen for the first time.
Town will be hoping to have completed the signing formalities of Spennymoor’s highlyrated midfielder Chay Liddle so that he can take his place in the Guisborough team against his old club, so there will be plenty of interest for both sets of fans in this attractive friendly fixture.
Then in midweek Guisborough take on old rivals Whitby Town at the KGV Stadium on Tuesday (7.45pm) when Town will parade close season signing from Whitby Nathan Mulligan in front of the KGV faithful. Meanwhile, one of Town’s reserve goalkeepers, Sam Hodgson, has said goodbye to Guisborough and joined Division Two side Billingham Town.
Sam stepped in as goalkeeper for Guisborough on several occasions last year.
