Austermuhle in control at Fryup

GUISBOROUGH DMC held their annual Dales Trophy Trial around Glaisdale and Fryup Dales on Sunday and Beta rider Ian Austermuhle once again stamped his authority on the event – and his name on the silverware – to win by ten marks from Scarborough’s James Carr.

Austermuhle and Stokesley’s Chris Barnfather were in fantastic form and stayed unpenalised until the waterfall section in the sticks just before punch card change Danby’s Ian Hopley held off a determined challenge from Stockton’s Roger Williams to win Intermediate class and Colin Bailey, from Egton Bridge, was just edged out in Class A class by the furthest clean to Scarborough’s Mark Taylor.

FIFTY riders turned out for the North East Centre Junior Trial last weekend, which was run by the Durham County Trials Club at Dursand Quarry above Stanhope. The Easy Course went the way of Derek Bainbridge, from the Richmond Club, who got the better of Alan Winter and Gary Daykin, but only by virtue of having one more clean.

THE long haul up to Belford near Berwick resulted in a depleted entry for the Tweed Valley Club trial on Sunday when only 22 riders made the start for what turned out to be a very difficult course.

Stephen Larkin took the honours on 78, six less than Michael Lee. The loose rocks changed with every rider, and remained slippery all day.

Glen Quinn took the Clubman Course win on forty one, well clear of James Black and Tony Hodgson, who all suffered with the same changing sections.

NATHAN STONES and his team again stage the unique Mintex Trophy Trial at remote Hurst, near Reeth, in North Yorkshire.

Forty seven Class A and B youngster will battle against the clock Scott Trial style over a 25-mile 30-section all-moorland course.

Many famous Scott Trial sections are on the route.

Gone is Billy Bolt who rocketed round last year to win the Mintex Trophy. Gone is James Stones. Both claimed by advancing years. James will be out and about on the course as a travelling marshall.
