GUISBOROUGH TOWN’S striker Danny Johnson swept the board with a double-hattrick of awards while his team manager Chris Hardy was crowned Northern League Manager of the Year 2013/14.
After presenting striker Johnson with three awards at the Guisborough Club’s Annual Presentation Night on Friday, Guisborough Manager Chris Hardy then had the tables turned on him when news came through from the Northern League’s own annual awards night that Hardy had won the manager of the year award.
“I must admit I’m in shock at getting this Northern League award, but as I have said many times before these kinds of awards belong as much to the many supporters and volunteers that we have who give so much help behind the scenes as it does to me,” said Hardy.
Guisborough’s awards evening was dominated by 59-goal striker Johnson, who picked up three awards – the manager’s player of the year, the supporters’ player of the year and the first team top scorer award.
And about 25 miles up the A19 at the Northern League’s Annual Dinner and Awards Night at Ramside Hall Hotel, Johnson – who has been watched by several Premier League and Championship sides this season – won two major honours.
He was named young player of the year and the BBC Newcastle player of the year, to add to a Golden Boot award as the League Division One top scorer with a season’s haul of 43 league goals.
Guisborough’s Under-21 Development side, led by manager Gary Forster, has also had a successful season.
The young team won the Durham County FA Under- 21s League title and also claimed three other trophies – the League Cup, the Preseason League Shield and lastly the League Subsidiary Cup.
