SLOW bowlers were to the fore at Stamford Bridge where the home side had the better of a draw against Studley Royal who held out at 114-9 when chasing a modest 149.

For the home team, Matt Beckett made 27, Pete Milner 37 and Dave Chaplin 32 as Steve walmsley with 4-30 and Dan Craven 3-38 each bowled well. Craven followed with 28 but Chaplin’s 4-35 almost conjured a home victory.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge batsman Rob Pinder struck his first York League century when he hit 121 against Hull Zingari. He shared a 92-run third wicket stand with Adam Fisher who fell for 63 then Ben Gill hit an inventive 34no to lift the Bridge’s total to 283- 6. Hull Zingari slipped to 34-3 but recovered as Andy Hanson made 45. However Mark Fisher’s 4-49 spearheaded the Bridge attack and earned a 135 run victory.

Division One. – Sessay’s Nick Thorne missed a century when he was out for 99 against Malton. However, with Tom Hall making 59, Sessay were able to total 258-7 as Chris Hudson claimed 3-42. Hudson then continued the good work in making 63no as he and Martyn Woodliffe an unbeaten 25 to gain a draw at 176-7 for Malton whose Steve Linsley made 32. Steve Langstaff had 3-50 for the hosts.

Division Two North. – An unbroken stand of 162 between Joel Wilford who hit 107 not out and C Foster 39no saw Sheriff Hutton pass Ripon’s 162-8 for the loss of just one wicket. For Ripon, Rob Taylor made 57 and D Hayley 32 but Matt Maltby’s 4-31 kept the score down.

Duncombe Park’s trip to Tadcaster Magnet proved productive when they notched a ten-run win in a bowler dominated game. Batting first, Park struggled as Tyrone Naude claimed 3 for 5 and Paul Clark 6 for 36. The Helmsley side owed much to Peter Kent who hit 48 in a total of only 107. Clark then followed with 26 but Kent, with 3-21 and James Leckenby 4-27 kept control and had Magnet all out for 97 despite the efforts of J Hill who was undefeated with 26.

The batting of John Patrick with 49 and Chris Evans 30 set up a 67-run victory for Dringhouses over Thirsk whose Jake Porter took 3-44 and James Wilkinson 3-32.

Their batting team-mates then fared poorly as George Wilson took 3-31. Mark Cook made 25 but Thirsk were out for 86. Mick Kenyon bowled nine maidens in a 12 over stint that earned him 2 for 8 whilst Evans supported with 2 for 3.

Hovingham squeezed out a five-run victory at Woodhouse Grange to improve their modest start to the season. Three batsmen made runs – all being shown as not out, which may indicate an injury retirement.

The three were Dave Bowling who hit 65no, Simon Mosey with 27no and James Wainwright with 28no. Paul Grewer had 4-31 for The Grange whose M Smith 45, MN Shepherd 31 and T White 27 made a good attempt at chasing their target. However the decisive aspect was the bowling of Tom Lund with 4-47 and Bowling who followed his good batting with 4-28 as Woodhousewere dismissed for 185.

Harrogate had a comfortable win at York whose 108 was 48 runs short of the target of 156.

Rob Stanworth top scored for Harrogate with 46no whilst other input was provided by George Owram 27 and Rich Taylor 28 as R Viriayan took 3-32. York were then sent tumbling by Stanworth with 4-29 and N Taylor who had 3 for 9 Elsewhere, Easingwold’s Tommy Langstaff recorded a match-winning 7-27 as his side dismissed Woodhouse Grange III for 124. Stuart Craven was the top batter with 38 but then saw his efforts effectively negated as Ronnie Alexander made 47 to counter K Smith’s 4-49 and earn a four-wicket triumph.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge top the division by 20 points after defeating Londesborough Park whose 92 was passed for the loss of just one wicket to leave Park without any points from the match. E Rook made 30 no for the homesters but the honours went to Dan Clipston with 3-21 and Dan Cass who grabbed 3 for 6. Steve Crowder made 36 before becoming the Bridge’s only casualty as an unbeaten 46 from Josh Cockerill earned his side their third win of the season.

Huby’s batsmen were in form when they travelled to Whitkirk and hit 224. Among the runs were Hugh Sheddon with 27, Dan Grainger who made 35, Tom Piercy with a top score of 51 and Chris Cundall who made 39. S Rudd took 3-61 for the hosts but then saw his side fall for only 109 as Grainger, Sheddon and B Swales each grabbed a pair of wickets. Luke Masey topped the home batting with 26.

Stillington, batting first at Drax, hit 187-7, Barry Milburn made 43, Matt Coulson 37no, Wayne Linton 33 and Tim Jarvis 32. M Atkinson had 4 for 51 for the hosts whose reply was 128-7 with Phil Vickers making 35.
