DOUGIE LAMPKIN made it eight victories in the Scottish Six Days Trial after a week battling with 250 other contenders and six days of heavy rain. The 38-year-old Silsden professional rider was never headed from MondayCookridge international James Dabill piled on the pressure but Lampkin just stuck to his task to win be a margin of eight penalties.

Londoner Sam Connor took third place ahead of Faceby’s Guy Kendrew and British champion Michael Brown.

Birstall instructor Dan Thorpe was the fourth Yorkshire finisher in eighth place. Arkengarthdale’s James Stones took the best Newcomer award ahead of Llangollen teenager Iwan Roberts.

James Lampkin was the best rider on a 250cc machine, a Beta UK imported by his cousin John Lampkin. Emma Bristow was the best female competitor riding her MRS Sherco machine.

Emma also made the top fifty out of two hundred and thirty three finishers. Of the Yorkshire riders who made the finish the following gained special first class awards – Dan Thorpe (8th), Ben Hemingway (13), Richard Sadler (16) Jonathon Richardson (17), James Lampkin (19), Dan Hemingway (25, James Stones (30, Sam Yeadon 31. Hurworth’s Rob Waite finished 29th overall but hit the headlines by making the matching best performance by all the front runners on Thursday.

GUISBOROUGH DMC held the second round of their club series trial on Saturday night at Ajalon House, Fryup and as squally showers swept down the dale, riders needed all their experience to keep scores respectable.

Expert winner Ian Hopley, from Danby, produced his best on the treacherous rock steps of seven keeping Teesside’s all rounder Dan Ferguson in runner up berth.

Barrie Darrell won in a strong Intermediate class by nine marks from Mark Shearer, with Mike Lees from Loftus third.

But the closest competition of the night ensued in the battle for Clubman A and B honours.

In A class Carlton’s Ian Atkinson just held off Darren Johnson from Yarm by one mark, with road racing youngster Hamish Adamski from Fryup finishing third just a further mark adrift.

The top three in B class could not be separated, Phil Manton, Willie Wood and Colin Bailey all remained unpenalised.

CONSETT CLUB headed back to Butsfield Quarry a week ago. Stephen Bennett took the Expert Course win after runner up Kirk Vitty wrecked his chances after failing section one on his last lap, and having more than a little trouble in section six where his two threes was off the pace. John Scott took the Clubman win ahead of Dave Humble, and a five and a one in section eight for Humble was the main deciding factor, with Scott leaving this section with a couple of cleans and two twos. Mark Dorrit had a one mark win on the Easy Course, his ten marks edging out Brian Ridley, while Ariel mounted Gordon Imrie finished just behind.

THE Richmond club headed for remote Diamond Pastures high above Coverdale on Sunday. Malton forestry expert Ian Austermuhle topped the expert class from Michael Phillipson and Liam Walker. West Witton’s Paul Sadler assumed his regular finishing position at the top of the clubman column losing a mere three penalties.
