LAST Saturday proved to be the worst weather for cricket in recent years with only two games played to a conclusion.

Play was only possible in 13 games and only one other game saw the commencement of the second innings.

Up in the premier division there was play in three of the six games, but none of them reached the half-way stage.

At Clifton, the hosts had made 21 without loss against Easingwold, whilst Sewerby were on 64-3 when entertaining Stamford Bridge, for whom Dom Rhodes had claimed 3-21 as Mark Tennant made 26no, when rain stopped play.

At Sheriff Hutton Bridge, the home players used their artillery of mopping up equipment three times as their game against Beverley kept being interrupted by short, sharp showers. Beverley reached 50 before Anthony Spence was lbw to Eddie Barnes for 19 and then James Fisher fell for 4 in the same manner to Jordan Grose. After a third break in play, opener Faisal Abid was caught by keeper Ben Gill off Ben Harrison for 44 but play was ended a few balls later leaving Beverley on 102-3 after 29 overs.

The League’s President’s XI will be entertaining the Royal Air Force at Sheriff Hutton Bridge Cricket Club on Tuesday, June 10. It is a day game starting at 11am.
