IT WAS a landmark day at Cleveland Point to Point for Chris Dawson at his local track, who on riding a treble managed to reach the 100 winner mark in point-topoints and hunterchases.

The winners were Dawson’s only rides of the day and there is no-one who rides this track better. “I’ve ridden about 40 winners here,” said the triumphant jockey.

“This is my home track and Mr Wade has been a big supporter so it’s very fitting that the 100 came here.”

Dawson’s first winner came in the John Hellens Contractors Mens Open Race. Chris, riding Yes I Can stalked the leading pair throughout and kicked on for home at the top of the hill last time around, continually extending his lead to win by eight lengths for owner, trainer Maria Myco from Beggar’s Velvet and Drew Holmes who ran on for second.

The single win was quickly turned into a double in the Beaumont Accountancy Restricted Race.

A similar ride with Spozalizio held up in mid-field until the final run for home meant that the favourite duly obliged, but this time a slightly shorter winning distance of four lengths from Indalo Return and Phil Dennis, with course owner John Wade’s Newspage back in third for Chris O’Mahony.

Dawson followed up in the next race, the Collins (Seafoods) Ltd PPORA Club Members Race run over the extended distance of 3m5f.

Riding Racing Ace, Dawson kept finding more and was quietly pushed out to the line, winning by three lengths and easily fending off the efforts of the hard ridden Eyre Square who finished in second and Narciso who was third.

Another jockey who rode a consecutive double was Richard Smith, winning the Jackie Sawney and Friends Cleveland Hunt Race, followed up in the Past & Present Four, Five Six and Seven Year Olds Open Maiden Race, run over the shorter distance of 2m4f.

This was the most eventful race of the day and Apassionforfashion, who has shown her best form at this course and over this distance was held up at the back of the field. Always going well, Oaklands Elise, who has only had two runs in bumpers managed to put her racecourse experience to good use and called on the experience of her jockey Richard Smith to win on her pointing debut.

Rush House was back in second and he looks as though the racing game is beginning to click now, beaten only a neck. Have One For Me was third and HMP Blue finished in fourth.

Five runners turned out for the S.M. Thompson Ltd Ladies Open Race. Chernik looked to benefit from carrying a stone less weight and took this under Harriet Bethell.

Oaklands Bobby put in a good effort to finish second for Alice Petch and Alfoisin ran one of his best races this season to come third for Laura Mason, replacing Jacqueline Coward who opted to ride Apache Brave who came fourth.

Apache Brave, hasn’t quite run up to the same form as last season and never seemed to be travelling in the race.

Racing finished with the Oaklands Veterinary Centre Open Maiden Race. Jacqueline Coward and Ath Dara Boru made most of the running but once Two Stroke, partnered by Toby Speke got in front they could never compete and were beaten into second by ten lengths.

Gortenbuie managed to complete for the first time in his pointing career and was a length further back in third under Will Milburn. Blue Lodge and Naomi Spalding finished in fourth.
