NORTHALLERTON Hockey Club’s first ever boys’ team finished the season on a high after an impressive run of results.

The club entered the under 12 boys’ team in the Yorkshire Youth League in 2013-14 – the first time the club has fielded a male-only team.

The boys played 24 fixtures over the season, winning 11 games, drawing four and losing nine.

Team coach Mark Crisp said: “They initially struggled, as they had never played competitive hockey before, but as the season went on, the results improved.

“Special mention must go to the youngest team player, Matthew Raynor, who scored 16 of the team’s 31 goals.”

The side grew in strength as the season progressed, only losing one of their last ten games.

Mr Crisp added: “The team have really enjoyed their first season and are now a strong cohesive unit and are looking forward to next season and the step up to under-14 competition on full-size pitches.”

Next season the club will be running teams for under ten, 12, 14 and 16 girls, and under 12 and 14 boys.
