CHAMPIONS Hawes United ended their Wensleydale League campaign with a disappointing 6-2 defeat at Colburn Town.

Hawes, who had not lost in the league since September but were beaten by Colburn in the final of the Medals Shield, looked as though they were already on their holidays as early goals from Si McGuiness and Stu Murray set Colburn on the way to another victory.

Murray had completed a hat-trick before the break to confirm his status as the league’s leading goalscorer with 34 for the season, while Luke McCormack made it 5-0 at half time.

Hawes did rally in the second period with goals from Andrew Fagg and Jordan Iveson, but Colburn made it 18 league matches without defeat thanks a late effort from Tom Sweeney – his 32nd in the league this season.

Hawes now face Richmond Buck in the semifinal of the Dales Cup where victory will mean another meeting with Colburn in the final.
