DIVISION One leaders Henleys Athletic suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at Blue Star last Sunday.

Goals either side of the break from Al James and Tom James put the hosts in control, but Henleys responded with a strike from Tom Keegan, 20 minutes from time. However, as they pushed on looking for the equaliser, Dave James scored on the break to seal the points for Star.

That defeat for Henleys gave defending champions Northallerton Police to chance to take over at the top with victory over neighbours Northallerton WMC. Another shock looked on the cards when Tom Roidan gave the Workies an early lead but Graham Caygill, Sam Vernalls and Chris Walker had the Police in charge by the break. Ben Darville then scored a second half hat-trick before Vernalls completed the 7-1 victory in the closing stages.

Sportsmans FC returned to league action for the first time since late December with a 5-1 home success against Tarvaux FC. The match was all over inside 15 minutes as Colin Anderson, Scott McNichol and Aaron Ramsbottom put the Sporties 3-0 up, while Sam Grainger and Anderson made it 5-0 at the break. With the points safely in the bag, Sporties eased off in the second half and Travaux grabbed a late consolation.

Robert Thompsons are hitting form a little too late to force themselves back into the title race as they thrashed Kildale 12-1. It took Thompsons until the 22nd minute to break the deadlock through Jamie Howe but it was all one-way traffic after that. Stu Rose stuck four times while Howe went on to complete a hattrick.

Ryan McKendry and Gareth Barber both scored twice, while an own goal completed the rout.

Elsewhere, Stokesley SC saw their interest in the North Riding Challenge Cup brought to an end as visitors Thornaby Jolly Farmers won a tight tie 1-0.

Catterick Village reached the final of the Bob Seymour trophy with a 3-2 extra time win over Osmotherley FC. Catterick looked to be heading out as Ossie led 2-0 with less than a quarter of an hour remaining, but goals from Josh Wooff and Adam Hodgkinson forced extra time where Wooff then sent Village through.

After the top two in Division Two – West Tanfield and AFC Beckside – shared six goals, Brompton-on-Swale could have reached the summit with victory over Three Coopers.

Things started well enough with a goal from Robert Atkinson inside five minutes, but Coopers had turned it around by the break with strikes from Johnny Reyner and Ryan Jones. That looked to be way it would finish until Chris Pickersgill popped up with a late Brompton equaliser, although they remain one point off the top.

Ainderby SC are in the promotion hunt after a 3-1 victory at Osmotherley Rangers. Will Stevenson’s opener for Ainderby was wiped out by an own goal before the break, but Kyle O’Gorman and Sam Logan sealed the points in the second half. Ainderby are now fourth, seven points off the top three but with four games in hand.

Bottom side Streetlam Farmers picked up only their third point of the season as a goal from Liam Hall was only enough to give Golden Lion, Romanby, a 1-1 draw.

Division Three leaders Brompton FC took another step towards the title with a 5-1 win at Masons Arms.

James Marriott, Adam Wilson, Mike Stimson, James Horsfield and Ryan Wilson were all on target for the leaders, who remain eight points clear at the top. Mark Fowler scored the Masons consolation.

Bar One are second after coming from behind to beat Knayton, who began the day third. Ryan Clarke gave Knayton the lead inside two minutes but second half goals from Paul Humphreys and Ben Wood sealed an important three points for Bar One.

Farmers Arms, Scorton, leapt to third after goals from Mickey Sartini and Scott Ryan gave them a 2-0 success at County Arms, while GLR Romanby won 6-0 at Jolly Minister. Kris Frost grabbed a hat-trick, while Matthew Mitchell, Andrew Sowerby and Jonathon Fishburn completed the scoring.

Masham and The Standard shared four goals. First half efforts from Phil Sharpe and Gareth Hare looked to have put The Standard in control, but Masham fought back after the break with goals from Dan Foster and Sam Gill to grab a share of the spoils.

Elsewhere, bottom side Northern Dons remain without a point after a 3-1 defeat at Vale of York.
