Impressive medal haul for Richmond swimmers

SUNDERLAND SUCCESS: Richmond Dales ASC swimmers who were in action at the Northumbria and Durham Sprint Team Championships earlier this month

RICHMOND Dales ASC members were in action at the Northumbria and Durham Sprint and Team Championships earlier this month, held in the 50m pool at Sunderland Aquatics Centre.

A Dales team of 37 had achieved the time to qualify for 55 events. After the heats were swum they made 51 finals and won a total of seven gold, five silver and five bronze medals.

Callum Hall, 14, and Nina Holguin, 13, won two gold medals each, both in 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Morgan Taylor, ten, won gold in the 50m freestyle, and the boys’ 13-14 team won two golds in the 4x50m freestyle and 4x50m medley relays.

Georgia Hadley, ten, won silver in the 50m butterfly, Nina Holguin, 13, silver in the 50m backstroke, and Thomas Flower, 14, silver in the 50m backstroke.

The 15-16 boys’ team won silver in the 4x50 freestyle relay and the boys’ 9-10 team silver in the 4x50 freestyle relay.

Callum Hall, 14, won bronze in the 50m backstroke, Harry Catterall, 13, bronze 50m breaststroke, Christa Wilson, ten, bronze 50m butterfly, Charlotte Young, 17, bronze 50m freestyle and the boys’ 9- 10 team bronze 4x50m medley.

Charlotte Young also gained her qualification time in 50m freestyle for the British Gas ASA National Youth Championships which will take place in August.

The squad competed very well over the weekend with some of the younger swimmer’s competing in their first county championships.

Richmond Dales ASC is based at Richmond and Catterick swimming pools, just off the A1, and has squads covering all ages and abilities.

  • Seven Thirsk White Horse swim team members met at Middlesbrough’s Neptune Centre last weekend for the Middlesbrough AA gala.

Overall, the team came home with eight new personal bests, five golds, three silvers and a fifth place. For Imogen Vollans, it was her first open gala and she swam brilliantly, competing in 200m and 50m freestyle and being placed ninth and tenth respectively.

Connor Malone swam a number of events in which he had not previously competed, and was rewarded with a fifth place medal for his 200m backstroke. Bronwyn Sherwood achieved personal bests in all of her freestyle events with silver medals in 100m freestyle and 200m Individual Medley.

Matthew Sherwood gained a personal best in his 50m Freestyle. Imogen Bower swam 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle and came away with two personal bests – a gold, and a silver.

Eve Bower swam two events and Jasmine Harrison swam 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m Butterfly and 100m backstroke achieving one new personal best and four gold medals.
