ONLY two Wensleydale League fixtures managed to beat the wet weather last Saturday but both produced plenty of goals. Colburn Town increased their unbeaten league run to 17 games with a hard-fought 5-3 victory at Richmond Buck Inn. An early brace from Matthew Bateson looked to have put fourthplaced Buck in control, but the deadly duo of Tom Sweeney and Stu Murray brought Colburn level by the break. David Addison fired the Buck ahead again soon after the restart, but Colburn showed exactly why they have not been beaten in the league since September as goals in the final 25 minutes from Adam Palmer, Si McGuiness and Luke McCormack gave them another three points. Despite being down in sixth place, Colburn are now eight points off the top with three games in hand.

Elsewhere, Richmond Mavericks Reserves eased to a 5-1 success at Reeth.

Richard Curruthers gave the Mavs the perfect start with a shot that went in off the post before Andrew Straw made it 2-0 at the break with a wind-assisted cross-shot. Mickey Sartini added a third early in the second half before Mike Snowden gave Reeth some hope on the hour. But almost immediately Scott Fenney added a fourth for the Mavs before a late penalty, converted by substitute Fabio Sartini, completed the scoring.
