LAST Sunday saw the quarter finals of the North Riding Challenge Cup with Robert Thompsons and Sportsmans FC both making progress to the last four.

Robert Thompsons beat Clarendon Hotel, Marske 6-1 at Thirsk Flatts. Chris Everingham and Gareth Barber put Thompsons in control inside the opening 15 minutes, while Everingham and Ben Morgan made it 4-0 at the break. The visitors pulled a goal back early in the second half but Dan McCalmont and Chris Padget sealed Thompsons path to the last four.

Meanwhile, Sportsmans FC swept past Enterprise, York, 14-4.

Only one match in Division One beat the weather and it saw Travaux FC and Northallerton WMC shared four goals. Pete Hurry gave Travaux a narrow half-time advantage but a second half brace from Chris Smales looked to have given the Workies all three points. However, in the dying moments, Ross McGuigan forced home the equaliser.

Two games went ahead in Division Two. AFC Beckside kept their promotion hopes alive with a 2-0 victory at struggling Osmotherley Rangers. Kieran Thornton gave Beckside a narrow half time advantage while Bradley Woods sealed the points midway through the second half.

Osmotherley FC won 5-3 at Golden Lion, Romanby. A brace from Phil Hindson appeared to have set the visitors up for a comfortable victory but the Lion roared back to lead by the hour with goals from John Bell (2) and Liam Hall. However, Andrew Barnes made it 3-3 before Hindson sealed the points with two more in the closing stages, both created by Wayne Allen.

Division Three leaders Brompton FC made it into the final of the Scorpion Cup as an early goal from James Marriott was just enough to beat Knayton 1-0.

In the league, Farmers Arms won 3-1 at Masons Arms. Lee White, Michael Ingram and Matty Raw put the Farmers in control by the break but Masons threatened a comeback when Ben Warmington made it 3-1 on the hour.

They had the chance to set up a thrilling climax soon after when they were awarded a penalty, but Jason Hall missed from the spot and it ended 3-1.

The only other game to beat the weather saw GLR Romanby win 5-1 at The Standard.

Jonathon Fishburn gave the visitors an early lead but Phil Sharpe soon had the Standard level. However, Kris Frost struck a hat-trick either side of the break to seal the points before Graham Wright completed the scoring in the closing stages.
