FORMER Darlington player Kris Taylor has been diagnosed with testicular cancer, it has been announced.

Taylor now plays for Hednesford Town and the club made the announcement yesterday.

A statement read: “On Friday last week midfielder Kris Taylor was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Kris will be undergoing surgery this week and will be having further tests.

“I am sure that you will all join with us in wishing this hugely talented and popular player a full and speedy recovery, he has the full support of everyone at Hednesford Town Football Club at this time.”

Taylor was with Darlington for the 2011-12 season, brought to North-East by Mark Cooper and was one of a handful of senior players who stayed despite the club falling into administration.

  • Meanwhile, the dates of the eagerly awaited games between Darlington’s fellow promotion chasers Warrington and Curzon Ashton have again moved.

Leaders Warrington will now host Curzon Ashton on Saturday, February 22, with the return game being on Saturday, April 12 – a fortnight before the end of the season.

Quakers face Curzon for the second time this season this Saturday, though the condition of the Heritage Park will no doubt be affected by Bishop Auckland playing two home games this week.

Bishop are scheduled to play there on Tuesday against Team Northumbria in the Northern League Cup, while on Friday Newton Aycliffe visit for a league match.
