NORTHALLERTON Ladies put in a strong performance on Saturday, beating Doncaster Thirds 4-0.
Hannah Chapman opened the scoring after ten minutes, and player of the match Rachel Holden added a second a short time later when she slotted home a rebound from a penalty corner.
Sally Hunt scored from close range to make it 3-0, and then hit the post moments later.
Shortly before half-time Lauren Stewart intercepted a pass on the half-way line, before driving forward with the ball. Her pinpoint pass found Holden in space in the centre of the pitch, and she calmly rounded the Doncaster goalkeeper to score Northallerton’s fourth.
Doncaster improved in the second period, but could not find a way to break down the solid Northallerton defence.
Northallerton created a series of chances to increase their lead, but the Doncaster ‘keeper made a string of fine saves to ensure the score remained 4-0.
Northallerton Ladies Seconds narrowly lost a close game to league leaders Tadcaster Magnets Seconds.
Tadcaster went straight on the attack from the first whistle, forcing the Northallerton goalkeeper Rachel Swain into a save in the opening seconds of the match.
However it was Northallerton who struck first, with a goal from Sandra Horner.
Tadcaster equalised when the ball deflected in off a Northallerton stick, before taking the lead from a penalty corner.
Northallerton had the majority of the possession in the second half, and won a string of penalty corners following an excellent spell of passing and movement.
But they were unable to find a second goal, and the game finished 2-1. Player of the match was Emily Crisp.
Thirsk had some great play and movement of the ball around the pitch which created some great attacks on goal.
Driffield fought hard throughout and were rewarded with a break that resulted in a goal before half time.
Thirsk came back into the second half with determination and again created chances but unfortunately failed to find the back of the net.
The final score was 3-0 to Driffield but the result did not reflect the effort of play by Thirsk. Player of the match was Val Grainger
