RICHMOND Town Vets concluded their fixtures for 2013 last Saturday with what turned out to be one of their best performances of the year to beat Mill View WMC at Catterick Village.

After a slow start, Town gradually began to get on top and there was only ever going to one winner once Andy Reaks had fired them ahead after 20 minutes following Sly Eves’ cross from the right.

Richmond then seized control with a goal from Ricky Butler just before the break. Again Eves supplied the ball in from the right and when the Mill View defence stood off, left back Butler was able to chip the ball over the goalkeeper from 20 yards.

Despite the increasingly windy conditions in the second half, Town continued to play some good football and they sealed the points soon after the restart when top scorer Stu Alderson grabbed his 13th of the season.

Butler then helped create the fourth on the hour after linking well with Steve Foley down the left. Butler’s initial shot was pushed out by the Mill View goalkeeper straight into the path of Mark Waller who could not miss.

Foley completed the scoring himself when he marked his comeback from injury with a fine free kick in the closing stages.

Although currently down in eight place, Town are just two points off the top five and a good run in 2014 could see them force their way into the promotion race. Following a break for Christmas and the New Year, the Vets are back in action on January 4 with a trip to Boldon Colliery Welfare.
