MORE than 200 children and parents attended the annual Richmond Motor Club youth awards social and prize-giving ceremony on Sunday in the town’s cricket club pavilion.

John Fraser organised a quiz, and AG Bikes sponsored a bike-balancing competition.

Academy organiser and S3 Parts national champion Richard Sadler presented the awards.

Sarah Laws and Julie Clement organised the event, which was compered by Steven Lambert, the motor club chairman.

Cath Hillary and Carol Richardson were presented with gifts as a retirement present for all they have done for the club, while Julie Clement received a retirement gift with the role being taken by Sandra Fowler. A great end-of-season evening for the youngsters.

HOPE Farm, near Longframlington, was the venue for Bedlington and DMC’s final trial of the year on Sunday.

The venue attracted 69 starters who faced four laps of ten sections. The Expert course was made a little harder due to the number of top local stars who took part.

Wallsend teenager Billy Bolt (Ossa) took the scalps of Michael Phillipson (Ossa) and John Crinson (Sherco), along with the rest of the entry, on the hard course.

Colin Ward (Beta) took on the Clubman route and finished without loss, which was just as well, as Richard Hawes (Beta) was just behind on two penalties, while Phil Clark (Ossa) was third. Kevin Chapman piloted his Triumph twin round for just one single mark on the Easy course, enough to take the win ahead of Ross Thomson (SWM) and Mark Thorn (Montesa) who both finished in double figures by the end of the trial.

THERE was a good turnout at Deanacres Park, near Chesterle- Street, County Durham on Sunday for Consett and DMC’s trial, held in the woods next to the garden centre.

Billy Bolt is bang on form at present and took his second win in a fortnight aboard his new Ossa 300, dropping just two marks over the four laps, both on the the most difficult section of the day, the tenth, which also took two off runner up Rob Waite (Beta) of Hurworth, near Darlington, who had also dropped two singles at sections seven and eight.

Colin Ward (Beta) lost over half his total of seven at the last section, but this score was enough to take third spot ahead of Carl Shaw.

Again it was the last section which sorted out the Green course, where Stephen Bennett (Beta) was well ahead dropping just seven over his four visits. Add to this a completely clean sheet over the rest of the course and he had more than a comfortable win over Richard Hawes (Sherco) on 16, who was followed by Louis Grey (Sherco) on 23.
