A HURWORTH youngster finished the 2013 season in fine style by scooping a national award.

Jessica Crompton, aged 15, was named the Junior Under 16 Champion at the British Connemara Pony Society Performance Awards last month, as well as taking the Reserve Champion in the overall Performance Awards Scheme and was placed third in the showjumping and sixth in the cross-country categories.

The awards were presented by David Broome, former showjumper at a presentation lunch held in Redditch, Birmingham, last month.

The Connemara Performance Award Scheme is open to adults and young riders competing on registered pure and part bred connemara ponies in all disciplines, from eventing,show jumping, dressage, showing to hunting and pony club activities. Points are awarded for placings throughout the year with higher points being awarded for national and championship classes .

Jessica and her connemara pony ,Kyrocally Rambler (Kyro) , gained a massive 6480 points, by competing in local, area and national championships, in showjumping, eventing and dressage.

Jessica has also represented the Zetland Hunt Branch of the Pony Club and Barnard Castle and Teesdale Riding Club, at Area and Championship level and is hoping to continue with her successful partnership with Kyro in 2014.
