DIVISION ONE champions Northallerton Police maintained their title bid last Sunday with what turned out to a comfortable victory at fading Broughton and Kirkby Hibs.

The hosts had been the early season pace-setters but a winless run of five matches had seen them drop out of the title race, although they knew victory here would reignite their challenge.

But despite a strong start, it was the Police that eased to victory with second half goals from Graham Caygill, Ben Darville and Chris Walker after Sam Vernalls had opened the scoring before the break.

The Police took the lead after 22 minutes when Vernalls made no mistake after a fine passing move, before the Police put the game to bed with three goals in the first ten minutes of the second period Caygill slotted home, before Darville finished to make it three.

Then, on 55 minutes, Police goalkeeper Adam Cunningham’s long clearance fell to Walker who put Pattison through on the right. The speedy winger raced towards the by-line before passing inside to the supporting Walker who fired into the far corner of the net from ten yards to make it 4-0.
