THE league’s last representative in the North Riding Challenge Cup, Colburn Town, crashed out of the competition last Saturday when they were beaten 4-1 by visitors Stokesley SC.
Colburn put up a strong fight against their Teesside League opponents but a late goal from Mark Swales was not enough to prevent them crashing out.
The game of the day in the league saw leaders and defending champions Unicorn FC face third placed Richmond Mavericks Reserves at Brompton- on-Swale.
Starting the day eight points behind the leaders with a game in hand, the Mavericks knew this was a game they simply had to win but Unicorn went in front inside 30 seconds with a goal from Carl Handley and doubled their lead before the break through Ryan Crowther.
The Mavs sensed a comeback when Darren Enright was sent off on the hour, thus reducing Unicorn to ten men, but it was the leaders that finished strongly with goals in the closing stages from Shaun Charlton and Matthew Libera to seal the points.
Hawes United remain second after a hard fought 3-2 success at Catterick Garrison Football Centre.
Spennithorne and Harmby moved back into the top three with a 2-1 win at bottom side Richmond Academy.
Richmond Buck Inn are up to fourth after a comfortable 5-0 home win over Askrigg United, while Reeth and Carperby Rovers shared four goals in a 2-2 draw.
