BROUGHTON Hibs missed the chance to go back to the top of the Division One table last Sunday as they were held to a 0-0 draw by neighbours Stokesley SC. With overnight leaders Henleys Athletic in North Riding Cup action, Broughton knew a win would take them to the top, but they were unable to break down a stubborn Stokesley defence and it finished goalless.

Robert Thompsons moved away from the relegation zone with a 3-2 victory at Thirsk rivals Blue Star thanks to second half goals from Mark Newcombe, Chris Padget and Dan MaCalmont.

There was a real thriller at Kildale as the hosts beat bottom side Appleton Wiske 6-5.

Kildale looked in control early on as goals from Aaron Pratt, Joe Marsey and Sam Sonley gave them a 3-0 advantage, but Neil Trewick and Alex Brydon replied for Appleton.

However, the match looked all over before the break as Marsey and Sonley scored again to make it 5-2 but Appleton staged a remarkable second half comeback. Brydon grabbed his second before Rob White and Andy Cochrane brought them level with more than fifteen minutes still to play. But in stoppage time Kildale won it as Sonley completed his hat-rick to leave Appleton rooted to the bottom.

West Tanfield are the new leaders in Division Two after an impressive 5-1 home victory against overnight leaders Topcliffe. Martin Mason headed home a corner from Karol Ratajzack after just 12 minutes to put the hosts in front, but Andrew Butler brought Topcliffe level soon after. However, Mike Kasprzak restored the Tanfield advantage before the break and a second half brace from Duncan Terry and a second from Kasprzak sent the hosts to the top.

AFC Beckside moved into the top three as a second-half strike from Bradley Woods gave them a 1-0 victory over Three Coopers, while Brompton- on-Swale are fourth after beating Osmotherley Rangers 5-3. Rob Atkinson, Will Riddick and Dean Wilson put Brompton in control by the break, and the match looked all over when Gary Nicholson made it 4-0 soon after the restart. However, Rangers rallied with goals from Sam Bailey, Aaron Leo-Gibson and Mark Sykes before David Addison sealed the points in the closing stages.

Cowtons, who began the season so well, are now slipping away from the promotion places after goals from Mark Sims, Mark Forrest and Scott Fenney were only enough to see them lose 4-3 at improving Catterick Village.

The big relegation clash went the way of Golden Lion, Romanby who won 4-3 at Ainderby SC. An early Craig Chandler strike for the Lion was cancelled out by Kyle O’Gorman before the break but John Bell, Iain Summerson and Sam Logan sealed the points before a late Will Stevenson brace for Ainderby.

Streetlam Farmers remain bottom without a point after a 2-1 defeat at Osmotherley FC.

Elliott Hollis gave the hosts a half time advantage after a through ball from Lee Holtby, although James Kirby headed the Farmers level before the break. That was the way it stayed until the final ten minutes when Holtby helped create the opportunity for Wayne Allen to win it for Ossie.

Brompton FC look unstoppable at the top of Division Three as they made it ten wins out of ten with a 5-1 home defeat of Masons Arms. Adam Wilson, Sammy Dawson and an own goal set the leaders on their way before the break while Jack Walton and Gary Toman completed the scoring in the second half. Dave Tennant replied for Masons.

Bar One remain nine points adrift after thrashing bottom side Northern Dons 16-4.

Danny Newton opened the floodgates after just four minutes and although Anthony Foster and Callum Bishop both struck twice for the Dons in the first half, it was nowhere near enough. Tom Simpson, Dean Hill, Ben Wood, Eddie Thornborough, Paul Humphreys and Dean Kenningley all scored twice for Bar, while Jason Carson, Richard Hammerton and an own goal completed the rout.

The Standard moved into the top three with a 5-2 success at Vale of York. Phil Sharpe and Dan Waind struck for the visitors in the first half while a brace from Dan Kilvington and a strike from Phil Wrighton sealed the points after the break.

Knayton remain in the promotion frame after sharing four goals at fellow-challengers GLR Romanby. Sam Rayner gave Knayton a half time lead but Joshua McCabe and Kris Frost turned the match in GLR’s favour in the second period. However, Matt Fishburn ensured the points were shared; a relief for Knayton who had earlier missed two penalties.

Masham enjoyed a 4-1 home victory over Farmers Arms. Dan Hare and Sam Gill twice gave Masham a first half lead, either side of Graeme Love’s equaliser, while Hare and Andrew Strudy then sealed the points after the break.

County Arms moved out of the bottom three with a 3-0 win over Jolly Minister, who had begun the day one point and one place above them.

Brad King and Martin Larkin gave County a two-goal cushion at the break while King sealed victory on the hour.
