BEDALE Tennis Club held their presentation evening last week when 31 members and friends saw Liz Ramsay win three different categories and a trophy for the Charity Tournament.
It was a wonderful achievement as Liz had just returned from a year off with a shoulder operation.
The men’s singles winner was John Hart, who beat Mark Scarlett.
In the ladies’ vets, Ann Wilson was runner-up to Liz Ramsay, but Ann went on to win the ladies vets in a close threeset match against Jenni Dilley.
John Hart won the men’s vets in the final against Bob Sampson but Bob then went on to win the super vets with runner-up Peter Palfreyman.
In the ladies doubles, Liz Ramsay and Ann Wilson beat Jenni Dilley and Sally Bainbridge.
The men’s doubles winners were John Hart and Mark Scarlett, beating Keith Oliver and Colin Bowes.
The mixed pairing of Keith Oliver and Liz Ramsay beat Ann Wilson and Andy Lambert.
The handicap singles saw a tight three-set match between Andy Lambert and Mark Woodward with Andy coming out on top.
Chairman Althea Draper had said what a good year it had been for the club with newly painted courts and improved attendances for club games on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Bedale have three mixed teams in the Harrogate League. With the club’s best female player and coach Helen Broadwith injured, the first team struggled and were relegated to Division Two.
The A team had a great season, being promoted to Division Four, while Bedale B improved on their previous season, ending in the middle of Division Six.
All the committee were thanked for their hard work over the year with special thanks to Andy Lambert who organised all the tournaments, Ann Wilson for being such an efficient secretary, Trish Melhuish for her work with the junior teams and Helen Broadwith who managed to keep her coaching going, despite injury.
