Beckett League: Union Rovers triumph over Gillamoor

IN Division One, Union Rovers collected their first league win of the season when they travelled to Gillamoor and won 3- 2.
Nicky Todd fired Union into a first-half lead with a goal scored after 25 minutes but ten minutes into the second half Patrick Bernstein equalised with a 40-yard lob – his club’s first goal of the season in the league. Ten minutes later Kai Morley set up Andrew Claughton to put Gillamoor ahead but Union stormed back with an equaliser 15 minutes from time scored by Ben Webster. In the last ten minutes Paul Holder scored the winning goal with a well-taken penalty.
Heslerton entertained Duncombe Park with the home team scoring both goals in a 1-1 draw. Duncombe took the lead after 20 minutes when a David Elkington right-wing cross went into the net after striking the unlucky Mike Webster and Heslerton’s equaliser arrived in the 70th minute, scored by substitute Tom Harrison with a closerange effort.
In Division Two, Easingwold Town 3rds beat Rillington Athletic Reserves 5-2 to maintain top spot thanks to goals by Gary Goodwin (2), Dominic Woodcock, Richard Thompson, and Tom Horner.
Rillington responded with a penalty brace by Lee Oxendale.
Slingsby completed a league double against Pickering Knights in a rearranged game 5-0 with goals by Scott Simpson (hat-trick), and firsthalf goals by Sean Keefe and Luke Gibson. Pickering Knights were hard done by as they had a strong penalty appeal turned down with the score at 3-0 early in the second half.
New team Settrington registered their first league victory when they entertained Heslerton Reserves, winning 5-3.
Heslerton took a well-deserved first-half lead when Dan Blanchard scored but Settrington had the better of the second half.
Harry Thistleton equalised and Richard Cass then scored to put Settrington ahead but Jay Bryan hit a 25-yard equaliser for the visitors.
Danny Lewis and Gareth Thistleton scored to put Settrington into a 4-2 lead but in stoppage time Liam Bradley scored for the visitors from the penalty spot. Gareth Thistleton then had another good effort which went into the goal via Andy Norman to restore his side’s two-goal advantage.
Ryedale Hospital Cup holders Sinnington eased into the second round after a comfortable 6-0 home win against second division Norton United with goals by David Wilkinson (2), and a goal each by Adam Stephens, Stuart Wilkinson, Toby Edwards, and Luke Clemmit.
Thornton-le-Dale beat second division Snainton Reserves 4-0. Goals by Harry Kenworthy and Jamie Dennison in the first half and a brace of David Elliott goals in the second half put them into the second round.
Second division Union Rovers 2nds entertained Bagby & Balk from the first division.
Phil Smith scored in the first half to put Union Rovers ahead but Bagby & Balk equalised in the last minute through Dan George.
In the penalty shoot-out, the visitors triumphed 4-1 with successful spot-kicks from Oliver Brooks, Martin Kendall, John Martin, and Dan George.
Union’s Ryan Cooper scored, while Phil Smith had his effort superbly saved by Jonathan Kendall, and Richard Abbey missed.
