Mavericks go top after magnificent seven

RICHMOND Mavericks Reserves are the new Wensleydale League leaders after a 7-0 home victory over Reeth last Saturday.
Goals from Mark Sims and Phil Stirling put the Mavericks in control before the break, while both scored twice more in the second half to complete their hat-tricks.
Mickey Sartini was also on target from long range to send the Mavericks top on goal difference.
Defending champions Unicorn FC maintained their 100 per cent start with a 5-0 success against Askrigg United. It took the champions a while to get going but once they took the lead with a header from Gary Nicholson midway through the first half, there was only going to be one outcome.
Unicorn doubled their lead just before the break when Niall Spink was brought down in the penalty area and Paul Brown scored from the spot, while Nicholson added two more in the second half to complete his hat-trick. Substitute Liam Waller then added the fifth late on after linking well with fellow replacement Darren Enright.
Spennithorne and Harmby made it three wins from three games, although they did it the hard way, coming from 2-0 down to beat visitors Richmond Buck Inn 4-2. A free kick from Gary Eggleston and a volley from Shaun Carter looked to have put the Buck in control, but the match turned when Lee Shaw scored for Spenni deep into first half stoppage time. Martin Dixon then equalised five minutes after the break before late goals from Joe Dickens and Jack Crook gave Spenni all three points.
Other scores: Carperby Rovers 3, Richmond Academy 2; Catterick Rovers 2, Colburn Town 6; Hawes United 3, Catterick Football Centre 1.
