Vikings look to national test

RICHMOND VIKINGS extended their fine winning streak to 11 in all competitions with a routine win over Tadea Middlesbrough Lions B at the weekend.

In the past two weeks, Richmond have beaten Ormesby, Barrow, Middlesbrough and Lockerbie to propel the club into first place in Teesside League, second place in the Northern Basketball League and –most impressively – the Richmond team has made it through to the knockout stage of the National Founders Cup competition.

The club has made large strides forward this season and is now hoping that silverware this season could boost the club’s chances of securing sponsorshipto allow entry into the Men’s National League allow the club and players to prove themselves at the next level.

Head coach Jaycie Hall said: “I’m really proud of the way the team is playing at the moment, not only on this winning streak, but for the whole season.

“Each and every squad member is contributing in their own way and we are hopeful of finishing the season with atleasttwo league titles”.

Vikings have drawn a tough away tie against Preston Pride in the last 16 of the National FoundersCupcompetition,the game to be played on Sunday.

The Preston side have won their group with six wins out of six and are favourites to progress to the last eight.

Richmond, however, are keen not to let their journey end here and will be looking to progress themselves.
