Snow is the winner for second week
3:43pm Friday 1st February 2013 in Sport
FOR the second week in a row the freezing weather last Sunday wiped out the entire Hambleton League fixture list, but with things warming up nicely, the league hopes to recommence this weekend.
The game of the day in Division One sees second-placed Broughton and Kirkby Hibs host Blue Star, knowing a win will close the gap to three points on on leaders Sportsmans FC, who face County Arms in the League Challenge Cup.
The league is assured of a semi-finalist in the North Riding Challenge Cup as Osmotherley FC face Northallerton WMC in an all-Division Two tie. Meanwhile, in the league, Leyburn All-Stars will go to the top of Division Two with victory at Appleton Wiske as leaders Travaux FC are not in action. However, should they slip up, Cowtons could overtake them if they beat Streetlam Farmers. Bar One host bottom side Knayton, while Brompton-on-Swale travel to The Ship, and Ainderby SC go to struggling Three Coopers.
In Division Three, leaders West Tanfield will be favourites to maintain their unbeaten run when they travel to Vale of York.
The freezing weather also put paid to the entire Wensleydale League fixture list last Saturday, but the league should return to action tomorrow with the first round of the Dales Cup.
