I HAD the chance to get the Wensleydale Flyer on Sunday morning to look at the recently refurbished AA box following your two articles on how the repairs and new coat of paint came about (D&S Times, June 23&30).

I was tidying up the damaged flowers when a car slowed down and the driver gave a “thumbs up” sign.

Then another car pulled to the side of the road and the passenger said they had read the story and were pleased it had been saved. A third car pulled in the layby and all three occupants got out.

They were on holiday and had passed the box three times so were delighted to see someone there. I told them the story and they insisted on taking a photo of me in front of the box and then one of the box looking its best in the sunshine.

It is gratifying that what has been done is appreciated and I must thank all those involved in getting this Grade II-listed building restored.

Should any of your readers stop to take a picture of it I must advise them to park in the layby and be very aware of what a dangerous stretch of road it is. Especially at weekends it is a race track, with motorbikes going at incredible speeds, determined to overtake cars before the corner.
