I HAVE read Daphne Clark’s letter (D&S Times, June 16) and have to say that I disagree with most of what she says.

A public highway is a road for everybody and this includes cyclists, horse riders, motorcyclists and pedestrians. Your correspondence seems to imply that country roads are there for the sole use of motorists.

This is not so. In over 50 years of driving I have never had a problem with road users. All car drivers need an understanding of other users, a bit of patience and the ability to hold back until they can overtake in safety.
