I REFER to the feature regarding the road and bridge work at Dalton Bridge near Topcliffe (D&S Times, June 16).

Yes it has “at last” started in earnest. I was rather surprised that the main of the work is expected to be completed in late spring next year with any remaining being completed within the next three months after that.

The first part of the M1 was built in less time than that.

To my point, you listed the items of construction that are to be carried out, road realignment, embankments etc. There is one very important item missing - a foot path.

No consideration whatsoever has been given to this. I have asked previously.

All that is required is a narrow strip of tarmac on the very wide grass verge.

A smooth area on which to walk, like you see alongside many of our remote local roads, without breaking your ankle.

At the moment pedestrians have to walk in the road. It is akin to walking on a motorway.

The number of heavy goods vehicles is horrendous.

If the big posh signs advertising the project had been made half the size the footway would have been affordable.

There is still time.
