DO the people of Northallerton and surrounding areas served by the Friarage Hospital need to oppose the implementation of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan?
The proposals are systematically eroding our wonderful hospital (and many others across the country) purposefully, to prove that there is a lack of need.
If we do not have consultants and anaesthetists to deliver services, the hospital cannot function or provide training. It is no wonder that young consultants do not see the Friarage as an option for their careers as patients now have to travel to ‘centres of excellence’ for treatment. This leaves our hospital without the staff to meet our urgent needs.
It puts patients’ lives at risk within the new NHS “Footprint 3” with a population of 1.3 million across Hambleton, Richmondshire, Tees, Whitby, Darlington and Durham.
This will undoubtedly affect us all.
H Lumsdon, Northallerton
