WITH the approach of elections for Hambleton District Council, and in view of the programme of austerity cuts inflicted on the taxpayers whereby services traditionally undertaken by council employees have been outsourced, slashed or charged for, perhaps the council leader would like to explain why Hambleton is now in the league of Fat Cat Councils?

Will he please explain why the total remuneration package for the former chief executive, Phil Morton, amounted to the eye-watering sum of £397,967?

I understand that the council has also paid out the thick end of £1m on golden hellos, golden goodbyes and unfair dismissal claims.

It would seem that the reason for the cuts, increased charges and making other services dependent on volunteers is that by the time everyone has been paid there is no money left to provide the services they are being paid to provide.
