Sir, – I would like to point out an incident which occurred just prior to noon on Sunday, April 8.

As I travelled the A67, westbound through the village of High Coniscliffe, near Darlington, I saw the Durham police road safety camera van parked in the village, with the camera pointing from the open rear window westbound.

This vehicle was parked completely on the footpath on the north side of the road, and alongside the kerb next to the van were double yellow lines on the road.

I believe this does not allow parking at any time and the lines also extend to the footpath, so therefore the driver of this vehicle, a police officer I presume, was committing two offences in the road safety van, which was parked outside Lawson’s Court.

I understand emergency service vehicles can contravene road markings/signs when on an emergency, but I would hardly call this an emergency.

If other motorists see this happening by so-called professionals, what sort of signs does it send out to them?
