Sir, – Is it intentional to stop people parking anywhere near Darlington town centre without incurring parking fees. I must have tried for 30 minutes to find a spot. I spotted overzealous traffic wardens as far away from the town centre as the Art Centre. I decided I wouldn’t bother and drove home again.

It must be obvious from the lack of shoppers in town that the parking restrictions are damaging trade to a massive degree. The inconvenience of parking makes shopping a luxury few can afford.

The council obviously doesn’t want to encourage custom to our already struggling “local shops for local people”.
