Sir, – In Yarm we appear to only hear of major Stockton council issues affecting us, such as parking, when details are posted on lampposts.

We have three councillors representing Yarm, yet not one apparently did anything , as the proposals wound their way through the Stockton system from idea to drawing board (way back in July) to proposed implementation.

Not a word came out ! Did no one see them ,were they marked secret by Stockton so no one could raise the alarm?

We even have, chairing the committee that approved this proposal, a sister councillor in Eaglescliffe, whose residents will be equally affected.

We thought when we elected three Conservative councillors and a Conservative Yarm Town Council one would get a wide-awake system. Based on this experience we should be like Ingelby Barwick and go back to Independents whose focus is exclusively Yarm.

So we are to have Yarm painted yellow, charges on all pieces of land fit for parking ,even a charge on the Yarm Station car park ,thereby taking away parking from residents and visitors alike, instead of providing adequate parking for the needs of both as was clearly expressed to R McGuckin and the Stockton officers who attended the last public meeting in Yarm in the late summer of 2010.

It is clear that, now parking enforcement has passed from the police to Stockton council, that Yarm is only to be a income stream for Stockton with nothing in return for Yarm.

How can it be justified and for what practical purpose can Stockton set up a parking department to prey on Yarm? We are further away from building the necessary multi-story car park than ever R W SUNLEY West Street, Yarm.
