Sir, – Darlington council’s policies make it a difficult place to run a business, that’s why there are so many shops for sale or rent in places like Bondgate.

Businesses need a good reason to locate in Darlington town centre, not obstacles at every turn. Parking policies make it almost impossible to load or unload outside your own shop.

A monstrosity of an overabout on Haughton Road that delays business traffic from getting on and off Albert Hill where most are located costing a fortune in idling engines and time, the overabout itself has sprouted traffic lights, about 30 at the last count.

Two new car parks in the town centre, which is already congested, encourage the public to use their cars causing more pollution and congestion.

Even outside rush hours it is clogged up. No wonder businesses find it tough.

JOHN SINGH Darlington.
