Sir, – Your correspondents (D&S letter, June 18) are incorrect. It is general knowledge that the weather varies in 50 to 100 year cycles and it is all caused by sun spot activity which is at present at an all-time low similar to the Victorian era.
This means very changeable wet or hot summers and cracking cold winters of three to four months duration. All movement will be severely restricted. Airports snowed in, train movements limited, roads blocked, motorways paralysed.
Only that noble animal, man’s best friend the horse, will be able to combat these conditions.
Your correspondents would do well to take riding lessons and make the best purchase of their lives, namely a horse.
