Sir, – Behind the Government’s intentions in the Queen’s Speech must be the restoration of Local Government to the floors of the council chambers.
The Conservatives particularly are challenged to scrap the cabinet system of controlling councils, where non-cabinet councillors and their electorates are made into mere spectators on the sidelines, with Richmondshire District Council being about the worst abuse of power.
