bridge designed by country house builder Ignatius Bonomi on John Street, Darlington.

The bridge, which spans the River Skerne,is the centre piece of a big display at the nearby railway museum.

It is possible to reach the bridge from the north side but then the way along the riverside is blocked and people have to trespass, it seems, if they are to go further.

Can an attractive pedestrian and cycle route into the heart of the town centre running from Albert Hill right along the river to John Street and beyond down Valley Street be established for this end of town? The view you get of the bridge from Magnet Kitchen’s car park is completely obscured by railings.

This is a big part of our railway heritage. Magnet and the other landowners on Valley Street must be persuaded to unblock any historic right of way over their land along the river.

The borough council should be proud to create and maintain a riverside pathway right into town.
