TWO-wheel fever has spread to some unlikely places – and now it’s even hitting the heavyweight world of the locomotive fans.

Staff at the National Railway Museum at York will be donning yellow jerseys and getting on their rail bikes this weekend as the Grand Depart comes to Yorkshire.

The rail bikes, also known as velocipedes, will also be on display and the over-16s will even be able to have a go on the quirky rider-powered machines.

Among those having a go will be the associate curator of the museum collection, keen cyclist John McGoldrick.

“I usually spend my time in the seat of a mountain bike, so to be sitting on a track experiencing a velocipede is a unique experience – all keen cyclists should come down and give it a go,” he said.
