Views sought on range of transport schemes

RESIDENTS in Ripon and surrounding villages are being asked for their views on new plans for transport initiatives in the area.

In addition to Ripon itself, schemes will affect Bishop Monkton, Wormald Green, Grewelthorpe, Kikrby Malzeard, Markington, North Stainley and Risplith.

Suggested improvements are known as service centre transport strategies by North Yorkshire County Council.

Interested parties and the public within each area are being given the opportunity to highlight transport issues affecting them.

A spokesman for the county council said it was crucial that the public's views were taken into account.

Seventeen potential schemes are under consideration.

They include the introduction of anti-speeding measures along residential roads bounded by Aismunderby Road, Quarry Moor Lane and South Gate; residential parking scheme in Bondgate Green Lane, Bondgate, Bondgate Green, Dallamires Lane, High and Low Saint Agnesgate this will prevent commuters and shoppers from parking on these roads and Harrogate Road, Morrison's and Harrogate Road, Quarry Moor Lane junctions changes to traffic signal timings and relocating dropped kerbs to improve traffic flow and ease access for pedestrians.

Also under consideration are a mini roundabout at the Kirkby Road-College Road junction to curb speeds; speed reduction measures in Palace Road, a Studley Road safety scheme, with speed reducing measures, and Southgate traffic calming for better pedestrian safety.

School safety markings close to Kirkby Malzeard School are being considered, also, at Markington, 20mph speed limits in Hinks Hall Lane and Thwaites Lane and Back Lane.
